Saturday Climbs and Monday Recovery

Saturday full of climbing and a recovery ride on Monday.

Saturday we went through Cowan Heights again. Watching the tour at the moment and am always amazed at the steady rhythm of the riders through the Pyrenees. My pace through the tiny hills in Tustin pale in comparison. Serrano was less steep and I was able to try some sprints. Very thankful to have such supportive friends to ride with. very thankful to have such strong riders to pull me through the windy SART.

8am start from A Road Bike 4 U to beat the heat.

Hungry Hungry Hippo

I'm almost always hungry. Since I started my diet back in April on this day I've managed to lose 20 pounds. (Thanks Livestrong.com!) A lot of people ask me what I eat... well... Usually for lunch it's a cup of brown rice and a cup of vegetables. I know, exciting right??? But today I made myself a special treat!

Soba with a side of Miso Salmon

Nutritional Information

That's 2oz of broiled salmon brushed with miso, mirin, and soy, 2oz of soba, and 1/8 cup dipping sauce for a grand total of 288 calories. Not bad eh? It really isn't a lot of food, but with only 885 calories in a day there isn't really much I can eat. Of course on days that I ride I eat a pre-ride snack and take Vitargo with me so I'm not lying on the side of the road trashed dry out of nutrients. Anyway... On with the ride report!

Today's Ride: Newport Coast x2 Again

So slow! I was too tired to ride like usual. I couldn't even hit max HR going up the hill... all I was able to do was survive. It's not a feeling I like when I'm on my bike, I'd much rather be pumped up, but I suppose everyone has their bad days. Michael and I had a picnic after the ride overlooking the Marina- I wish I had brought my camera. Lots of people were having picnics as well, the weather is just perfect for it.

Wednesday Group Ride

Man it was hot last night!!! What a horrible ride! One guy had 3 flats and there was a crash. We rolled home safe and slow after that... Such a wierd day...

The Cervelo is now a Time Machine!

New Toy!!! Time iclic carboflex pedals!!! They really are very very easy to clip into. Totally brainless. They also don't weight anything. 225g I think it was? I picked em up yesterday from Laguna Cyclery and the idiot that sold them to me gave me 2 left pedals. Well, honest mistake, it just SUCKS having to drive through all that traffic to get to Laguna.

Happy Independence Day btw!

Had a great ride this morning down the Santa Ana River Trail. I forgot how nice it was North of Anaheim. Was trying to motor-pace some boys from VeloViet down the trail but needed a little more speed. Oh well! The headwind was atrocious on the way back but we made it through and helped pull another rider through.

Ride Stats

Anyway here are some pics!

Back Bay to Irvine and Back

Went to pick up the better half from work so we could ride home together on our bikes. 1.5 hours, 30 miles. It was a hammerfest there with lots of tailwind- easy to maintain an 18 avg. I sat behind Michael's wheel the entire time on the ride back to Newport... so strong, even through the wind.

Ride Data

I hate how accurate the new calorie counter on the Garmin 500 is. Michael's old 700 over calculates by sometimes double the amount of calories. Dieting... it's not easy.

Chasing Legends

Saw Chasing Legends last night at the Regency in South Coast, a documentary/behind the scenes look at team Columbia HTC at last year's Tour de France. It was really inspiring! The movie is playing 2 more times I believe in Orange County. Seven door prizes were raffled off as well. I didn't win anything.

Can't wait for the Tour de France to start this Sunday!!!
